Cabela’s Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results For the Missouri River at  Council Bluffs, Iowa

This past Saturday September 6, 2014 the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Missouri River at Council Bluffs, Iowa for the final qualifying event of the year. In the event top anglers from 10 different states were competing not only for the cash and prizes, but the final opportunity to qualify for the 2014 Cabela’s King Kat East and West Championship. This year’s West Championship will be held September 19 & 20, 2014 on the Mississippi and Rock Rivers at Quad Cities, Iowa. The East Championship will be held October 3 & 4, 2014 on Lake Wateree at Camden, South Carolina.

Results for the Top 5 Teams

Taking first place was the Council Bluffs, Iowa team of Jake Reid and Greg McCoy weighing in 70.15 pounds and earning $3,000.00. The team also captured big fish of the event with a 40.60 pounds cat which netted the team an additional $385.00. Jake and Greg were fishing the Wilson Island area of the Missouri River drifting and anchoring in the channel in around  12 feet  of water. The team was using cut bait and only caught and weighed in 4 fish during the tournament which included the 40.60 pound big fish of the event.

King-Kat-logoIn second place was the well known team of John Jamison of Spring Hill, Kansas and Mark Thompson of Williamsburg, Kansas with a weight of 46.1 pound and earning $1,200.00. John and Mark were fishing north of Council Bluffs bumping bait down the main channel in around 25 feet of water. The team used       shad and skipjack to land 7 fish for the day. Also John and Mark would like to give a special thanks to their outstanding sponsors Minn Kota, Humminbird, Mercury Motors and Rippin Lips.

Third place went to the Nebraska City, Nebraska team of Derek and Summer Walters with a total weight of 38.12 pounds and earning $500.00. Derek and Summer were fishing the Nebraska City area using golden eye for bait and landing only 3 fish for the day which was still  good enough for 3rd place. The teams big fish weighed 28 pounds which was 2nd Big Kat.

The Council Bluffs team of Greg Love and Larry Trescott Jr. took fourth place with a weight of 25.13 pounds and earning $300.00. Greg and Larry were fishing south of Council Bluffs fishing the side of a channel in around 30ft of water. Team used cut bluegill  and gold eye for bait catching only 2 fish for the day. Team had 3rd place Big Kat weighing 18 pounds.

Fifth place went to the Sioux City, Iowa team of Aaron Post and Keith Copenhaver along with their 3rd partner Marc Thorson of Akron, Iowa weighing in 24.13 pounds.

Cabela’s King Kat Free Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Cabela’s King Kat held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic this fall.

Cabela’s King Kat, Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $322,000.00 to the “Outdoor Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Cabela’s King Kat, “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.
