Fishin’ In the Minners with Slider’s new swimbait

SLider SwimbaitFishing the minnow schools is a great way to catch bass, and stripers. A few days ago we ran into a big school of minnows congregating around a large pier on Wilson Lake. Dropping weighted worms and un-weighted worms in the school did not produced very much response from the bass. The feeding action going on told us bass were keying on the minnows and making occasional runs through the school getting a mouth full.

I remembered a new Slider Shad swimbait we had picked-up at Slider’s office in Lawrenceburg, TN a few weeks ago. I spotted the lure on a color guide posted on the wall in one of Slider’s production sections. Somehow the lure had escaped our attention. We had never seen the new lure. Obviously, samples were procured and brought back home to give them a try.

Now was the time to test the Slider Shad. I tied on a Slider 1/8 oz. football head jig and attached a silver/white

colored Shad. The action and the color of the new Slider Shad was what the foraging bass were looking for. Four bass were quickly caught fishing the lure in the schools of minnows. The bass I am holding to the right is representitive of the four caught. As usual, a bass in the 3 to 5 lb. range also hit the new Slider Shad but managed to come unbuttoned in the fight even though I was fishing with the hook exposed.

Another pair of anglers have also discovered the effectiveness of the Slider Shad. Brad

Whitehead, fishing with his son Nathan,  says, “One of things we love to do when the crappie get slow is to smallmouth and stripe fish. We normally start in September and it’s really a blast! There is a bait the public might not know about yet that is on the market.

Slider has jumped on the wagon of swimbaits. Slider Lures took their famous tail action lures and added a swimbait body to create the Slider Shad. We fish it on two types of heads which are shown with the Slider package above.
